Dear Families, Welcome to the wonderful world of Swift Nature Camp an overnight camp for boys and girls ages 6-15 located in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin. I’m Lonnie, the Camp Director, and I’m thrilled to share what makes SNC such a special place for kids and families alike. For nearly 30 years, our mission has been to create an environment where children can grow, discover, and make lifelong memories. Here at camp, we focus on friendship, personal development, and a deep connection to nature—all in a fun, supportive, and adventurous setting. All this without cell phones One of the things that sets Swift Nature Camp apart is our focus on fostering independence and confidence. Whether it’s trying a new activity like canoeing, taking on a leadership role in a group project, or simply navigating life away from home, camp provides endless opportunities for personal growth. We celebrate each camper’s unique personality and encourage them to step outside their comfort zone in a safe and nurturing way. Seeing kids gain new skills and pride in their accomplishments is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. For our youngest campers, Discovery Camp is an especially magical experience. Designed only for first-time campers ages 6-12, this shorter program gives kids a chance to experience the joys of camp life in a way that’s just right for them. It’s amazing to watch these kids try new things—from learning about the natural world to singing campfire songs—and leave camp with big smiles and even bigger stories to tell. Discovery Camp is often the beginning of a long and cherished relationship with SNC, and we’re so proud to see those first-time campers grow into confident and capable young people. Another cornerstone of Swift Nature Camp is our connection to the environment. We believe that nature isn’t just a backdrop for camp; it’s a teacher, a playground, and a source of endless wonder. Through hands-on activities like pond studies, wildlife observation, and outdoor adventures, campers develop an appreciation for the natural world that stays with them long after camp ends. The Camp Zoo is always a favorite, campers can even adopt a pet while at camp.Our goal is to inspire kids to become curious, mindful stewards of the environment. At Swift Nature Camp, there’s never a dull day! With hundreds of land and water activities, campers are always engaged and excited. On land, some favorites include the Lego Cabin, Arts & Crafts, Archery, and exploring the Nature Center. On the water, campers learn Canoeing, Fishing, and Swimming, but the absolute favorites are Tubing behind the boat and jumping off the Water Trampoline. Never is there a dull day because every day is packed with fun, adventure, and opportunities to try something new. Of course, none of this would be possible without the amazing friendships that form here. SNC is a place where kids truly feel like they belong. Campers and counselors alike bring warmth, kindness, and enthusiasm to everything we do, creating a strong sense of community. Whether it’s cheering each other on during a game, collaborating on a creative project, or sharing laughs around the campfire, the bonds formed at Swift Nature Camp are something truly special. At Camp Takajo, we maintain a traditional camp experience that is focused on teaching and reinforcing the twelve Arch Ideals. These ideals are at the center of camp life and serve as a guide for our campers and staff members. Our goal is to provide a program that promotes the development of character and personal growth in a safe and positive environment. The 12 Arch Ideals are integral to the Camp Takajo experience. These ideals form the foundation of our camp and are the cornerstone of our program. They are emulated by our staff and embraced by our campers. The ideals are reinforced throughout camp in both formal and informal settings, from educational assemblies and campfires to daily interactions. They provide the guiding principles for all of our campers and staff, setting the tone for a positive and meaningful summer experience.

Abraham and Gertrude Krasker, a professor and teacher from Essex College, had a dream to own a summer camp of their own. They found the perfect spot, a farm nestled in Fryeburg, ME and opened the doors of Indian Acres Camp for Boys in 1924. Two years later, Forest Acres Camp for Girls opened two miles down the road. When Abraham passed in 1962, their son Dick took over ownership and management of both camps. With his wife Sandy, Dick ran camp until 1998 when it was purchased by Lisa and Geoff Newman. The Newmans were determined to keep the Krasker's legacy alive and with the help of Neal and Julie Waldman, their dream became a reality. Today, Indian and Forest Acres is a thriving summer camp thanks to the hard work of the Newman family. Almost 100 years after its founding, the camp continues to honor the traditions and vision of its founders, Abe and Gertrude Krasker.

Dr. George Alexander Kohut, a literary scholar and educator with a vision to provide a healthy and character-building outdoor experience, founded Kamp Kohut in 1907. Coming from the heat and pollution of the city, he ran a boys' school in New York, hence calling it "Kohut's School for Boys". At Kamp Kohut, we pay special attention to the individual qualities of each camper. We understand that each child has different needs and interests and we strive to make sure that all campers have a truly special summer experience. We provide close supervision and carefully orchestrated detail to ensure that each child’s camp experience is successful.

For over a century, Camp Wigwam has offered campers a dynamic cultural experience, with an emphasis on sports and fine arts. Today, the camp continues to offer innovative programs that have helped it earn a reputation for excellence. The camp is renowned for its high quality and wide range of activities, from traditional favorites like sailing and basketball to less common offerings such as scuba diving and ceramics. Campers are kept entertained with a variety of crafts, music, and other fun activities, all of which are designed to promote a sense of community and provide an unforgettable summer camp experience. At Camp Agawam, boys have the opportunity to become their best selves. Through a seven-week program, campers will gain leadership skills, nurture teamwork, and have healthy competition in a digital-free environment. This builds into them the traits of sportsmanship, service to others, and stewardship of the natural world that have been at the heart of the Agawam experience since 1919. The camp is located on a 125 acre campus on Crescent Lake in Maine and is open to boys between the ages of 8 and 15 years. The camp program offers a variety of activities including water and land sports, creative and performing arts, wilderness trips, and camp craft. With over 75% of campers returning each year, it is clear that Camp Agawam is a great place for boys to grow and develop. Parents can rest assured that their sons are in good hands at Camp Agawam. With a dedicated alumni network extending around the globe, a boy can leave camp with new skills, new friends, and a new sense of his own capacity. For those who are new to camp, they may have the opportunity to try it out in a 3.5-week session. Camp Agawam is an incredible place for boys to learn, grow, and make lasting memories.

At Manitou, we understand the importance of fostering a sense of team spirit and camaraderie. To achieve this, we offer a variety of team-based activities, including inter-camp competitions, the College League and the Color War tournament. By actively participating in these events, campers are able to gain a greater sense of purpose and belonging. We also recognize the value of individual exploration and growth. To that end, we offer a selection of individual activities that allow campers to discover their own interests. From classes to individual sports, campers are given the freedom to chart their own course and learn to make their own decisions in a safe and nurturing environment.

Camp Cedar has proudly upheld the values of camp and community that its founders established 66 years ago. Bill and Sheila Hacker, along with Henry Hacker and Henry Lesser, opened the original camp in 1954 with just 37 kids. Over the years, they built up the camp facilities with a true labor of love. Now, Camp Cedar is a thriving camp with 270 boys ages 8-15 enjoying the summer together. Camp Cedar is the perfect size, offering all the options of a larger camp while still being able to individualize each camper’s experience. Taking a walk to the campfire, visitors can witness the values of camp and community that have been proudly upheld since the camp’s inception. The dedication of Bill and Sheila Hacker, Henry Hacker, and Henry Lesser has created a lasting legacy that continues to enrich the lives of campers each summer.

Winona Camps has been a treasured summer home for generations of boys since 1908. The camp is located on the ancestral homelands of the Pequawket people, a part of the Abenaki tribe and the larger Wabanaki Confederacy. Boys spend their summers living in tents on the shores of Moose Pond and engaging in traditional outdoor activities like canoeing, hiking, and swimming. At the same time, modern activities like rock climbing, kayaking, and lacrosse help campers explore new boundaries and develop lifelong skills. Winona also offers unique experiences like the BAT, Red-Gray competitions, and The Great Relay. This combination of old and new makes it one of the oldest summer camps in the country and a beloved summer destination for boys around the world.

The Cumberland/North Yarmouth Community Recreation Department is dedicated to providing a range of high-quality programs, events, and activities for the residents of our two towns.
