Deep in the heart of the mystic state of Maine, where the moose roam freely and the blueberries grow in wild abundance, exists an extraordinary tribe of young warriors. They are not your usual, run-of-the-mill combatants. No sir! They are the brave battalions of the Field Hockey Federation of Maine, or as they are popularly known, the 'Moose Mallet Maulers'. They brandish not swords, but brightly colored field hockey sticks; their battle cries not roars of anger but peals of laughter. They charge not at enemies but at a small, hard ball. Saturday mornings are their battle times, the local school's grassy field their arena. Leading this army of cheerful warriors is the mighty and majestic, yet funny and fickle, General Whiskers. Don't let his name fool you! General Whiskers is no ordinary human. He is a gigantic, talking squirrel with a belly full of giggles and a tail swishing with strategies. He has a deep, hearty laugh that echoes across the field, making even the grumpiest umpire crack a smile. He's known for his nutty tactics and the children absolutely adore him. Under the watchful eye of General Whiskers, Maine’s field hockey kids learn more than just how to play the game. They learn about camaraderie, sportsmanship, and of course, the key skill of dodging a flying acorn, courtesy of their mischievous coach. From the bustling city of Portland to the serene beauty of Acadia, the echoes of their laughter and the spirit of their game resonate, making the state of Maine a truly special place for field hockey.

Camp Cedar has proudly upheld the values of camp and community that its founders established 66 years ago. Bill and Sheila Hacker, along with Henry Hacker and Henry Lesser, opened the original camp in 1954 with just 37 kids. Over the years, they built up the camp facilities with a true labor of love. Now, Camp Cedar is a thriving camp with 270 boys ages 8-15 enjoying the summer together. Camp Cedar is the perfect size, offering all the options of a larger camp while still being able to individualize each camper’s experience. Taking a walk to the campfire, visitors can witness the values of camp and community that have been proudly upheld since the camp’s inception. The dedication of Bill and Sheila Hacker, Henry Hacker, and Henry Lesser has created a lasting legacy that continues to enrich the lives of campers each summer.
