At our farm, we understand that no two days are the same. From morning till night, our rhythm gives children the opportunity to explore their interests while also learning how to care for animals and the environment. Parents of young women looking to build a career in the trades will be pleased to know that Northern New England Tradeswomen (NNETW) was founded in St. Johnsbury in 1985 by Ronnie Sandler. The organization's first program, Step Up, was funded by the Vermont Department of Education, and welcomed 14 women into its inaugural 13-week course. This program was designed to give them comprehensive hands-on training in technical skills, plus strength and fitness conditioning, workshops to help build self-esteem and employability skills, and instruction in labor law and employee rights. For over 35 years, NNETW and its Step Up program have been helping young women in Northern New England break into the trades. The program has been successful in giving participants the skills and confidence they need to succeed, and parents should be proud to know that their daughters have access to this valuable opportunity.

The Very Merry Theatre began as a small summer camp in Charlotte and Burlington and has since grown to become a theater company for children that performs one-of-a-kind plays at schools and community centers across Northwest Vermont. For more than 65 years, Lotus Lake Day Camp has been a beloved institution in Central Vermont, providing a tradition of day camping for children between the ages of 5 and 14. Situated in a rural setting, campers are able to enjoy a wide variety of outdoor activities, from swimming and boating to arts and crafts and more. The camp has been voted “Best of the Best Camps” by the Times Argus for several years in a row, and it is often referred to as a “real Vermont camp.” The camp is situated on 300 acres of diverse habitat surrounding the 16-acre lake, Cutter Pond. The land is home to hiking trails, playing fields, a low-ropes course, lean-to’s, a recreation barn, multiple shelters, and one with bathhouses. A winterized meeting room is also available for campers to use during the colder months. Lotus Lake Day Camp provides a safe and welcoming environment for children to learn, grow, and have fun!

Boys and girls ages 9 – 17 who have difficulty connecting with their peers are all welcome, as well as older teens who have completed 10th – 12th grades. Akeela is a safe and accepting environment for children and teens with Asperger’s Syndrome, NVLD (or NLD) or a similar neurodiverse profile, as well as those who are undiagnosed but share similar characteristics.
