We all have the power to make the world a better place, one small act of kindness at a time. Every day, we can find opportunities to offer kindness, empathy, and understanding to our family, friends, and even strangers. By being mindful of these little moments that create trust, we can build a stronger, kinder world. In her poetic work, Small Kindness, Danusha Laméris reminds us of the power of simple acts of kindness. Through her writing, she encourages us to nurture our relationships and foster trust. Laméris' poem is a part of her book, Bonfire Opera, which is published by Green Writers Press and the University of Pittsburgh Press. By connecting to these small acts of kindness, we can create a sense of connection and understanding among ourselves and with our environment. Let us continue to be mindful of these small moments that can help us build peace and trust in our lives. We can find moments to express kindness, empathy, and understanding with the people and the world around us. By being conscious of our actions, we can create a better world for us all. Danusha Laméris' poem Small Kindness is an inspiring reminder of this. Through her work, she encourages us to cherish the little moments that can bring us closer together. Her poem is part of her book Bonfire Opera, which was published by Green Writers Press and the University of Pittsburgh Press. Parents understand that their children are naturally inclined to explore music. From singing in the car to beating out rhythms on pots and pans, children explore and express themselves musically. To nurture this natural aptitude, parents can create a rich music environment. This can include singing and dancing together, attending concerts or musicals, listening to a variety of genres and instruments, and exploring instruments like bells and drums. When given the opportunity to explore in this way, children learn to sing and dance as naturally as they learn to walk and talk. This is because music is an integral part of a child’s development. It helps to strengthen motor skills, explore language, express emotions, and develop creative thinking. By creating a supportive music environment, parents can help their children to grow and develop in meaningful ways. As children explore musical sounds, they learn to express themselves in new ways. Music encourages children to move, think, and experience the world around them in a joyful and meaningful way.

As many of us know, Native Americans were the first farmers of our land. Native women were particularly influential, leading their villages and demonstrating amazing agricultural skills. They showed newly arriving English settlers how to grow corn, beans, and squash, as well as to gather cranberries. The tribes moved seasonally between established hunting, fishing, and growing/gathering sites. Today, students of all ages have the chance to learn about nutrition and the life cycle of plants and animals through field trips and summer work. People of all abilities can participate in meaningful work and contribute to their community. Thousands of students, volunteers, and community members have now been introduced to the importance of productive open space, organic agriculture, and supporting local farms and farmers. It’s thanks to the Native American’s pioneering agricultural practices that we are now able to enjoy the fruits of their labor.
