They call themselves the "Texan Tornado Painters," led by the funniest, friendliest cowboy around, 'Picasso Pete,' who surprisingly, rather than riding horses, rides a multicolored unicorn named Hue. Pete’s cowboy hat is no ordinary headgear. It’s a magical hat that drips a myriad of colors, which he catches with his paintbrush and uses to paint the world brighter. He teaches the Texan Tornado Painters, a group of spirited Texas kids, how to make masterpieces that would make the stars in the Texas sky twinkle in admiration. Whether they're in Houston, Dallas, Austin or anywhere in between, every weekend, these kids dip their brushes in their palettes filled with shades of the Texas sunset, colors of the Bluebonnet flowers, the greens from the cacti and the browns of the cowboy boots. With each stroke, they create art that echoes the joyous spirit of Texas, making the Longhorn cattle moo in approval and the armadillos do a little joyous roll. And oh, these kids don’t just paint; they paint with a Texas-sized gusto, adding laughter and creativity into every artwork. Some say that whenever a Texan Tornado Painter completes a painting, a new star appears in the Texas night sky. Since 1947, we have been offering a unique residential camping experience for individuals with disabilities. At Camp Summit, we focus on what our campers can do, rather than what they can't. We offer a variety of traditional camp activities, all of which are adapted to each individual's needs and abilities. Our facilities are completely barrier-free, and our staff is not only well-trained, but also deeply caring. Campers are grouped by age, allowing them to build friendships within their peer groups, all while having a great time and embarking on new adventures. Situated on a beautiful 460-acre plot in Paradise, Texas, just north of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, Camp Summit is the ideal location for a safe and fun camping experience. We are proud to be accredited by the American Camp Association and licensed as a Youth Camp in the State of Texas. Our campers may have physical challenges, developmental delays, dual-sensory impairments, or multiple disabilities. However, we welcome all campers, regardless of the severity of their disabilities, as long as we can medically meet their needs. We fully understand the concerns you may have about your child's safety and well-being, which is why we have an on-site medical staff and up-to-date nursing facilities.
