Every day, in towns as big as Houston or as tiny as a cowboy's boot, these Mavericks eagerly gather for their favorite activity - Music Therapy, or as they like to call it, "Rhythmic Rodeo". Guided by their loyal companion, Harmonious Hank, a six-foot-tall cowboy hat-wearing coyote with a guitar for a tail, these kids strum, drum, and hum their way to happiness. Harmonious Hank, with his tail twanging out tunes as tuneful as a nightingale's serenade and as foot-tapping as a longhorn's hoedown, leads the Mavericks into a world of melodies and rhythms. Sometimes, they play the heart-thumping beats of the Wild West on their "tumbleweed drums", and other times they serenade the prairie dogs with soothing lullabies on their "cactus flutes". Each session is an adventure, as unpredictable as a Texas twister, yet as comforting as a warm pecan pie. The Mavericks laugh, they play, they explore the magic of music, and in doing so, they discover their own unique symphony of self-expression. It's a hootin', hollerin', harmonizin' hullabaloo! So, if you ever find yourself under the vast Texas sky, don't be surprised if you hear the echoes of laughter intertwined with the beautiful sounds of therapeutic tunes. Since 1947, we have been offering a unique residential camping experience for individuals with disabilities. At Camp Summit, we focus on what our campers can do, rather than what they can't. We offer a variety of traditional camp activities, all of which are adapted to each individual's needs and abilities. Our facilities are completely barrier-free, and our staff is not only well-trained, but also deeply caring. Campers are grouped by age, allowing them to build friendships within their peer groups, all while having a great time and embarking on new adventures. Situated on a beautiful 460-acre plot in Paradise, Texas, just north of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, Camp Summit is the ideal location for a safe and fun camping experience. We are proud to be accredited by the American Camp Association and licensed as a Youth Camp in the State of Texas. Our campers may have physical challenges, developmental delays, dual-sensory impairments, or multiple disabilities. However, we welcome all campers, regardless of the severity of their disabilities, as long as we can medically meet their needs.
