This splendid geography makes ME—a popular nickname given by Professor Puffin, a comically feathered, monocled, and top-hatted bird character—the perfect place for young adventurers to engage in all sorts of water activities. Imagine a group of plucky kids, known as the "Lobster Squad" for their red sun hats, out there on a sunny day. They slide into shiny kayaks, with their faces beaming with excitement as bright as the summer sun. They paddle under the watchful eye of Professor Puffin, who, despite being a bird, is ironically terrible at swimming. Then there are the kiddos that prefer to grab their fishing poles, and with bated breath and twinkling eyes, wait for a fish to bite. They often engage in hilarious debates about who will catch the biggest fish, or rather, the biggest seaweed, much to Professor Puffin's amusement. What began in a humble New York City apartment with just a single student, Spark, has since blossomed into an enriching program impacting thousands of children. Our services extend beyond the standard after school and weekend classes to include holiday and summer camps, birthday parties, portfolio preparation, private classes, and custom pods. We also welcome homeschool groups and are thrilled to announce the recent addition of a forest school program to our repertoire. You can find Spark on-site in various schools and at our main studio located in the Upper West Side. But we're not stopping there - we're also planning to expand to the Upper East Side and Brooklyn. For our families in Pennsylvania, we run the program from our family studio there. And if you're not in close proximity to any of our locations, don't worry. We offer in-home instruction and virtual options to ensure that Spark can reach you, no matter where you are. At Camp Chewonki, we believe that every camper should have the opportunity to explore and grow in a safe, supportive, and fun environment. We strive to create a community that is united by the spirit of adventure, collaboration, and camaraderie. From stories around the campfire to sunset paddles along the shore, we build our summer camp community to share the challenges and fun as a team. Campers return summer after summer to reunite with old friends and dive into the next adventure. At Chewonki, we expect every member of the community to contribute with an “all hands on deck” attitude. Camp Chewonki is the perfect place to nurture curiosity and creativity, build confidence, and learn the importance of community. Our campers explore the natural surroundings, connect with nature, and develop and strengthen independent skills. Our counselors and mentors are dedicated to helping campers build self-confidence, and develop lasting friendships. Our campers immerse themselves in fun and educational activities focused on community building, outdoor living skills, natural history, farm and food systems, and watercraft. Additional activity offerings include visual arts, performing arts, woodworking, and archery with opportunities for swimming, sports, and recreation during free time. Essential to the experience is a remote trip to a beautiful corner of Maine where they will develop transferable skills in camping and leadership to prepare them for more advanced leadership expeditions and life beyond their Chewonki summer. We offer a 3-week Full Session camp program for campers aged 10-15 and a 10-day, introduction to overnight camp called the Puffin Program for campers aged 8-11.
