Leading this jaunty group was a character who was just as wild and wacky as he was wise and wonderful - Scurry the Squirrel. With his ten-gallon hat, cowboy boots, and a tail as tough as a climbing rope, Scurry was a sight to behold. He was considered the coolest climber in these parts, with an infectious laugh that echoed through the canyons and a sense of humor as vast as Texas itself. Each day, the Texas Ascenders would gather at the foot of the cliff, their eyes glistening with the sheer joy of the challenge ahead. With Scurry leading the charge, they would begin their ascent, their laughter and chatter ringing out against the rocks. They climbed with fierce determination, their hands and feet finding holds where none seemed to exist. Up, up, they climbed, seeming to defy gravity, as the Texas landscape stretched out below them. As they sat around their campfire under the star-studded Texas sky, they took turns telling tall tales and singing songs, their laughter ringing out across the plains. In the great state of Texas, the Ascenders and their squirrel leader Scurry, were more than a team. They were a family, united by their shared love for rock climbing, their friendship, and their unstoppable spirit. And every kid in Texas knew - if you saw the sun setting against a silhouette of tiny figures inching their way up a cliff, the Texas Ascenders were having another day of fun-filled adventure.

The Camp Fire Camp El Tesoro, established in 1934, has been a welcoming haven for generations of campers, with its iconic swinging bridge being a memorable landmark for many. El Tesoro, which translates to "The Treasure" in Spanish, is a 223-acre sanctuary nestled between Fall Creek and the Brazos River in Granbury, Texas. Our camp offers a breathtaking panorama of the serene river and the vast open spaces of the blackland prairie. Our natural terrain and indigenous landscape offer our visitors a much-needed respite from the hustle and bustle of the modern world. This idyllic oasis currently hosts co-ed overnight campers, day campers, grief campers, teachers, students keen on learning about nature, and groups seeking to foster connection and indulge in outdoor adventures. In 2010, Camp Fire First Texas launched a Capital Campaign aimed at renovating and upgrading the facilities at Camp El Tesoro. This initiative is essential to ensure that the enchanting spirit of the camp continues to be enjoyed by future generations. We're committed to preserving and enhancing the magic of Camp El Tesoro, enriching the lives of campers for many years to come.
