Nestled in the northeastern corner of the United States is the state of Maine, a magical land of lobsters and lighthouses, pine trees and potatoes, and snow - lots and lots of snow! Perfect for building snowmen, making snow angels, and of course, playing hockey! That's right! Maine is home to the coolest (literally!) gang of kids, known as the "Moose Pucksters." In this wonderful winter wonderland, every kid learns to play hockey before they can even tie their shoelaces. From the quiet, picturesque towns to the busy, bustling city of Portland, these kids can be found zipping around the ice, sticks in hand, chasing a puck, and scoring goals with the precision of professional players. Leading the Moose Pucksters is their captain, Feisty Fred. With his maple syrup hair and blueberry eyes, Fred is as Maine as they come. His slapshot is as delicious as a Maine lobster, his defense as sturdy as a lighthouse, and his speed as fast as a moose in full stride. Don't let the funny hat and the mismatched socks fool you, this kid can shimmy, shake and skate like no other. Fred is never without his trusty sidekick, Puck, a feisty little snowman who serves as their team mascot. Puck is known to pull pranks that cause a hilarious ruckus, like replacing hockey pucks with cookies, or turning the Zamboni into a giant snow-cone machine. In Maine, hockey is more than just a game. It's a playful dance on ice, a snowy symphony of laughter and camaraderie. It's a testament to the unbreakable spirit of the Moose Pucksters, the coolest kids on the coolest rink in the coolest state. After all, nothing's cooler than hockey in Maine!

At Camp Takajo, we maintain a traditional camp experience that is focused on teaching and reinforcing the twelve Arch Ideals. These ideals are at the center of camp life and serve as a guide for our campers and staff members. Our goal is to provide a program that promotes the development of character and personal growth in a safe and positive environment. The 12 Arch Ideals are integral to the Camp Takajo experience. These ideals form the foundation of our camp and are the cornerstone of our program. They are emulated by our staff and embraced by our campers. The ideals are reinforced throughout camp in both formal and informal settings, from educational assemblies and campfires to daily interactions. They provide the guiding principles for all of our campers and staff, setting the tone for a positive and meaningful summer experience.

Abraham and Gertrude Krasker, a professor and teacher from Essex College, had a dream to own a summer camp of their own. They found the perfect spot, a farm nestled in Fryeburg, ME and opened the doors of Indian Acres Camp for Boys in 1924. Two years later, Forest Acres Camp for Girls opened two miles down the road. When Abraham passed in 1962, their son Dick took over ownership and management of both camps. With his wife Sandy, Dick ran camp until 1998 when it was purchased by Lisa and Geoff Newman. The Newmans were determined to keep the Krasker's legacy alive and with the help of Neal and Julie Waldman, their dream became a reality. Today, Indian and Forest Acres is a thriving summer camp thanks to the hard work of the Newman family. Almost 100 years after its founding, the camp continues to honor the traditions and vision of its founders, Abe and Gertrude Krasker.
