About Dance Complex
For more than 25 years, The Dance Complex has been a community center for dance, offering a variety of classes, workshops, and performances that foster creative and physical development.
Parents, if you are looking for a place to get your kids into the wonderful world of dance, look no further than The Dance Complex. This 1884-circa, five-story building is the perfect setting for dance classes, workshops and performances. Originally built as meeting rooms for the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a philanthropic fraternal brotherhood, the building was used in the mid-to-late 20th century as aerobic/fitness and dance studios known as Joy of Movement Center.
When the fitness entity experienced financial problems and closed its doors in 1991, a group of local dance-makers led by founder Rozann Kraus negotiated with the City of Cambridge and lending institutions to maintain the building as a dance center. Since then, The Dance Complex has provided a safe and nurturing atmosphere for young dancers to explore and develop their craft.
The Dance Complex offers a range of classes and workshops for all ages and levels of skill. Kids can get involved in ballet, hip hop, jazz, modern and tap classes, as well as master classes and performances. The Dance Complex is the perfect place for kids to get creative and have fun in a safe and supportive environment.
Programs
The classes, camps and experiences this business offers.
Primary Ballet I
This class introduces children to creative movement and very basic ballet positions and terminology. We begin sitting in a circle, doing a series of stretches accompanied by music and visual imagery. Slowly we stand and work on ballet positions and moving across the floor.
Beginning/Educational Ballet with Contemporary
This class is for students who have ballet experience, but only want to attend a ballet class one day per week. For the Fall 2022 Term focus is on technique and mastering the most important ballet steps so students can gain strength and precision for more complicated steps to be learned during the Spring 2023 Term. Emphasis will also be placed on correct stretching techniques and at-home exercises to maintain strength and flexibility.
Pointe I/II
This is a pointe class for students with at least one year of pointe experience. Emphasis will be placed on proper alignment, conditioning, and technique. Class will also include strength-building exercises.
