Led by their fearless leader, Kip Kansan, a freckled, straw-hatted boy with a twinkle in his eye and a compass in his pocket, these kids are always ready for an adventure. Kip Kansan and his trusty crew spend their days exploring the vast prairies and the meandering rivers. They chase after tumbleweeds, make friends with prairie dogs, and even try to figure out which end of a worm is its head. They can tell you a hundred different facts about sunflowers – Kansas's state flower – while balancing on a haystack, and can track a coyote faster than you can say "Bob's your uncle." These kids are curious, courageous, and a little bit crazy. But in Kansas, crazy is just another word for awesome! And when it comes to having fun in the great outdoors, no one does it better than Kip Kansan and the Kansas Nature Explorers. Nestled in 178 acres of lush woodland is a serene escape from the city, a place fondly known as Camp Swamp. This overnight Christian camp, located just two hours east of bustling Atlanta, has been serving as a peaceful retreat since 1992. We like to think of it as our own "little slice of heaven," offering a respite from the daily hustle and bustle, and inviting people to reconnect with nature and their spirituality. Our primary offering is a week-long summer camp, but we've expanded over the years to include more than just summer fun. As part of our mission to support families and churches, we now also host three family camps throughout the year, as well as four parent/child retreats. These events offer a chance for families to bond, parents to connect with their children, and individuals to grow in their faith. Moreover, our facilities are not exclusive to our organized events. Camp Alexander is a great place to enjoy nature and get some exercise. Located in Lyon County, east of Emporia, Kansas, the 90-acre camp is filled with woods, ponds, and rolling meadows. It offers nearly five miles of challenging hiking and biking trails, a nine-hole disc golf course, and a Fitness Trail for a great whole-body workout. Plus, there is the newly added Flow Trail, a quarter-mile of mountain bike thrills. During the summer months, Camp Alexander is bustling with activity as children and teens explore their creative side and experience the wonders of nature.
