He could chatter for hours about his old-timey villages, bustling seaports, or breathtaking mountains. But what truly makes his eyes sparkle are the super-duper field trips he hosts for his friends, the Connecticut kids. 

Oh boy, those kids! They're as unique as snowflakes in a blizzard and twice as energetic. You'll find them buzzing about, armed with curiosity and laughter, ready to explore all Connecticut's nooks and crannies. They are the kind of kids who would rather lose their homework than their sense of adventure. 

Meet Billy Brains-a-lot, the unofficial leader of the Connecticut kids. With wild, Einstein-like hair and a backpack filled with snacks and confusion, Billy leads his troop with the grace of a stampeding elephant. Every field trip is a whirlwind of chaos and fun, from getting entangled in old pirate ship rigging at Mystic Seaport to chasing imaginary dinosaurs at Dinosaur State Park. 

Yes, Connecticut and his spirited kids are unlike any other. Just imagine a state that's a walking, talking history book paired with a bunch of kids who can find excitement in a blade of grass. It's a hilarious combination of learning and fun, one that would surely make you wish that you, too, were part of the crazy, beautiful world of Connecticut field trips.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Swift Nature Camp an overnight camp for boys and girls ages 6-15 located in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin. 

 I’m Lonnie, the Camp Director, and I’m thrilled to share what makes SNC such a special place for kids and families alike. For nearly 30 years, our mission has been to create an environment where children can grow, discover, and make lifelong memories. Here at camp, we focus on friendship, personal development, and a deep connection to nature—all in a fun, supportive, and adventurous setting. All this without cell phones
One of the things that sets Swift Nature Camp apart is our focus on fostering independence and confidence. Whether it’s trying a new activity like canoeing, taking on a leadership role in a group project, or simply navigating life away from home, camp provides endless opportunities for personal growth. We celebrate each camper’s unique personality and encourage them to step outside their comfort zone in a safe and nurturing way. Seeing kids gain new skills and pride in their accomplishments is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

For our youngest campers, Discovery Camp is an especially magical experience. Designed only for first-time campers ages 6-12, this shorter program gives kids a chance to experience the joys of camp life in a way that’s just right for them. It’s amazing to watch these kids try new things—from learning about the natural world to singing campfire songs—and leave camp with big smiles and even bigger stories to tell. Discovery Camp is often the beginning of a long and cherished relationship with SNC, and we’re so proud to see those first-time campers grow into confident and capable young people.

Another cornerstone of Swift Nature Camp is our connection to the environment. We believe that nature isn’t just a backdrop for camp; it’s a teacher, a playground, and a source of endless wonder. Through hands-on activities like pond studies, wildlife observation, and outdoor adventures, campers develop an appreciation for the natural world that stays with them long after camp ends. The Camp Zoo is always a favorite, campers can even adopt a pet while at camp.Our goal is to inspire kids to become curious, mindful stewards of the environment.

At Swift Nature Camp, there’s never a dull day! With hundreds of land and water activities, campers are always engaged and excited. On land, some favorites include the Lego Cabin, Arts & Crafts, Archery, and exploring the Nature Center. On the water, campers learn Canoeing, Fishing, and Swimming, but the absolute favorites are Tubing behind the boat and jumping off the Water Trampoline. Never is there a dull day because every day is packed with fun, adventure, and opportunities to try something new.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the amazing friendships that form here. SNC is a place where kids truly feel like they belong. Campers and counselors alike bring warmth, kindness, and enthusiasm to everything we do, creating a strong sense of community. Whether it’s cheering each other on during a game, collaborating on a creative project, or sharing laughs around the campfire, the bonds formed at Swift Nature Camp are something truly special.

The goal of the organization is to provide environmental education, preserve and maintain the integrity of the park’s resources, and to serve as an advocate for the park. The organization is organized under the laws of the State of Connecticut and has no stockholders. 

Through the work of Friends of Brooksvale Park, Inc., citizens of the greater Hamden area will benefit from environmental education, protection, and advocacy for the park. The organization works to preserve the park’s natural and cultural resources, ensuring that the park remains a resource for the entire community.

The Indian Rock Nature Preserve is a special place that offers unique opportunities for groups and educational institutions. It is open to scheduled groups, schools, and events only, and does not have any public hiking trails. That said, those who are fortunate enough to have access can take advantage of a variety of activities, such as our summer camp, school field trips, family events, and facility rentals. 

At the Indian Rock Nature Preserve, visitors can enjoy an array of activities that are not available to the public. Whether it be a summer camp, school field trip, family event, or facility rental, this special place is sure to provide an unforgettable experience. It is important to note, however, that this nature preserve is open to scheduled groups, schools, and events only – there are no public hiking trails at this time.

The Downtown Cabaret Theatre is an impressive example of the commitment to the downtown area. Originating from Sacred Heart University, where it achieved several successful seasons, the theatre company, led by Claude McNeal, made the move to the downtown area in 1975. Alexander Hawley, Samuel Hawley, Norwick Goodspeed, Mayor Nicholas Panuzio, Leete Doty and other business and civic leaders saw the importance of having a professional theatre company in the area. To make the move happen, the assembly room of the former YWCA was converted into a theatre, installing a balcony and air conditioning.

Our goal is to empower individuals to become informed conservationists, taking ownership of their role in preserving and restoring nature. We focus on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats in order to raise awareness of the importance of biodiversity and the need for conservation.

Our center has been in operation since 1943, and we offer a variety of educational programs and activities for children, adults, and families. We also host community events and field trips, as well as guided bird walks and bird banding. At Camp Pyquag, we are dedicated to providing children with an engaging and fun summer camp experience. Our camp is situated at Hanmer Elementary in Wethersfield and is the top camp in the Tri-Town region. Our progressive programming is designed to be participant-based and includes both indoor and outdoor activities. Examples of these activities include swimming, hiking, sports, games, drama, arts & crafts, and biweekly trips and special events.

Our staff is made up of caring adults, all of whom have received 40 hours of training. Camp Pyquag is a State of Connecticut licensed and American Camp Association certified summer day camp, providing kids with a safe and enjoyable environment. With all of these amenities and activities, your child is sure to have an adventure-filled summer!
