Meet Crafty Casey, the coolest kid in California, with freckles dotting her nose and her hair as wild as her imagination. You wouldn't believe the wonderful creations that spring forth from her busy little fingers! She folds paper into exotic birds that seem ready to fly away, sculpts clay into cute cuddly creatures, and paints ocean sunsets so real, you’d swear you can hear the seagulls.

Joining her in these adventures are her hilarious friends - Doodling Dave, who doodles on everything, even his pet dog’s tail! For over 60 years, Camp Pendola has been the summer home to the Diocese of Sacramento. In 1959, the land was lovingly donated in memory of Frank Pendola, Jr. as a place of respite and fun. Since then, the camp has been used to host school retreats, alumni events, and environmental education programs for Catholic schools in the Diocese. 

Camp Pendola has been a special place for the Diocese of Sacramento for decades. It provides a safe and enriching environment for children and adults to learn, explore, and reconnect with nature. Camp Crescent Moon is a unique camp experience specifically designed for children with sickle cell disease. This week-long, sleep away camp provides a safe and supportive environment for campers to bond with friends, explore nature, and make memories. The camp is staffed with medical professionals who are experienced in the management and care of sickle cell disease, ensuring the safety of all campers. Camp Crescent Moon offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for children with sickle cell disease to take part in a traditional camp setting, something that would otherwise be impossible due to the potential serious complications that can arise at elevations above 5,000 feet.

His example of reaching out to others, helping them, and using the gifts and talents God gave him serves as an inspiration for campers and staff alike. 

At camp, campers are surrounded by nature and taught to respect the environment. Through our Nature Program, campers learn the Leave-No-Trace wilderness ethic and the names of local trees and plants. We ask campers and staff to respect all life and avoid the unnecessary picking of leaves or killing of bugs. Campers are encouraged to take this "Michael-like" spirit home with them, helping to make our world more loving and life-giving.
