He always had a goofy joke up his sleeve or a funny face to lighten the mood, even when the competition was fierce. He could make a grumpy goblin smile with his antics, and his laughter was said to be the secret ingredient that made the sunflowers in Alabama grow taller. In Alabama, Sportsfield Activities were not about winning or losing, but about pushing one's limits, having fun, and above all, making friends. Blue Lake United Methodist Assembly began as a dream in the 1940s, but in 1951, the first campers got the chance to experience the beauty of Blue Lake. Instead of modern cabins, they had to make do with tents and a campfire for their meals. Fast-forward to today, and Blue Lake United Methodist Assembly has grown into a bustling destination for campers of all ages. Three modern camps, Pinewood, Dogwood, and Oakwood, provide a total of 525 beds for overnight guests. The Assembly also serves as a retreat center for church and youth groups, and can accommodate special needs guests.
