They were not ordinary children but a band of adventurous rock climbers, known across the Lone Star State as the "Texas Ascenders". Leading this jaunty group was a character who was just as wild and wacky as he was wise and wonderful - Scurry the Squirrel. With his ten-gallon hat, cowboy boots, and a tail as tough as a climbing rope, Scurry was a sight to behold. He was considered the coolest climber in these parts, with an infectious laugh that echoed through the canyons and a sense of humor as vast as Texas itself. Each day, the Texas Ascenders would gather at the foot of the cliff, their eyes glistening with the sheer joy of the challenge ahead. With Scurry leading the charge, they would begin their ascent, their laughter and chatter ringing out against the rocks. To further deepen their faith, they are introduced to gospel truths in a manner that suits their individual learning style. The campers also participate in meaningful praise and worship sessions, which are designed to be both inspiring and enjoyable. Each summer, we see the magic of community unfold before our eyes. Within their cabin groups, our campers learn to depend on one another, to lend a helping hand, and to inspire each other. They engage in exciting tribal competitions, where they not only compete but also comprehend the significance of unity, spirit, and sportsmanship. Our camps provide an environment where young individuals can forge deep, meaningful relationships, that reflect the unconditional love of God, and last beyond the duration of the camp. At Deer Creek, we also focus on adventure activities that fill our campers with wonder and excitement. They have ample opportunities to explore nature and enjoy thrilling activities such as hiking, sky-high zip-lining, river rafting, and wall climbing. They can even take a 'leap of faith', kiss a fish at the top of a climbing wall, or go on a sunset canoeing trip. The campers gather around a bonfire under a starry sky, sharing stories and experiences, creating memories that they carry with them long after they leave our camp, their faith awakened and enriched by God's love.
