Led by none other than the cool, capricious cowboy artist, Doodlebug Dan, who sports a paint-splattered ten-gallon hat and a pair of crayon-colored chaps. These kids are as diverse as the Texan landscape itself. Some are as enthusiastic and wild as the tumbleweeds that roll across the wide-open plains, others as calm and reflective as the tranquil surface of the Guadalupe River, but they all share a love for creating marvelous masterpieces. Through sizzling summers and bone-chilling winters, the Art & Crafts club keeps their creativity flowing like the Rio Grande. In Doodlebug Dan's workshop, beneath the shade of a giant cottonwood tree, you'll see the children huddled around tables, their faces glowing with concentration. They use everything from paints and pencils to the most unconventional of materials like prickly cactus needles and shiny armadillo shells, to create their pieces of art. An outsider might think it's all a chaotic, colorful mess, but to Doodlebug Dan and his posse, it's a symphony of imagination with every child playing their part. Our camp programs are structured to incorporate daily rituals of devotionals, scripture reading, and prayer. This enables our campers to feel and experience God's presence in their everyday activities. To further deepen their faith, they are introduced to gospel truths in a manner that suits their individual learning style. The campers also participate in meaningful praise and worship sessions, which are designed to be both inspiring and enjoyable. Each summer, we see the magic of community unfold before our eyes. Within their cabin groups, our campers learn to depend on one another, to lend a helping hand, and to inspire each other. They engage in exciting tribal competitions, where they not only compete but also comprehend the significance of unity, spirit, and sportsmanship. Our camps provide an environment where young individuals can forge deep, meaningful relationships, that reflect the unconditional love of God, and last beyond the duration of the camp. At Deer Creek, we also focus on adventure activities that fill our campers with wonder and excitement. They have ample opportunities to explore nature and enjoy thrilling activities such as hiking, sky-high zip-lining, river rafting, and wall climbing. They can even take a 'leap of faith', kiss a fish at the top of a climbing wall, or go on a sunset canoeing trip. The campers gather around a bonfire under a starry sky, sharing stories and experiences, creating memories that they carry with them long after they leave our camp, their faith awakened and enriched by God's love.
