About Special Olympics Rhode Island
Athletes and their families everywhere can find strength and hope in Special Olympics. It’s a global movement that uses the power and joy of sports to transform lives. Through sports, health, education, and community programming, Special Olympics are working to solve the issues of inactivity, intolerance, isolation, and injustice that many people face, particularly those with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics Rhode Island provides year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports, helping people with intellectual disabilities develop physical fitness, experience joy, and build friendships with their families and their communities.

Young Athletes
Special Olympics Young Athletes is a sport and play program for children with and without intellectual disabilities (ID), ages 2 to 7 years old. Young Athletes introduces basic sport skills, like running, kicking, and throwing. Young Athletes provides children with activities and games that meet their skill and ability levels while allowing them to play together in a fun and inclusive environment. Children of all abilities take part, and they all benefit.
Athletes
Athletes are the heart of Special Olympics Rhode Island. Through our programs, children and adults with intellectual disabilities enjoy a lifetime of active participation in sports, as well as an opportunity to make new friends, learn new skills, build confidence, and discover their independence.
