About Piano Playground

At Piano Playground, we believe that every child is a unique individual with their own gifts and talents. Our lessons are tailored to each student's age, aptitude, and interest. We focus on the student's personal development and growth, and strive to reveal the music artistry within them. Through our positive learning environment, we provide fun and engaging activities to keep students interested and motivated. We make sure that each and every lesson is an enriching and memorable experience. We recognize that fun is an important motivator for children, and so we incorporate play and adventure into our teaching process. Our program for young beginners is designed to be a journey of discovery, creativity, and music-making. Our curriculum includes five books in each level – Lesson, Theory, Technique & Artistry, Performance, and Sight-reading books – and covers a variety of genres, including classical music, traditional folk songs, jazz, rock, and popular music. At Piano Playground, we strive to create an environment that encourages exploration and self-expression. We believe in creating a supportive and nurturing atmosphere that fosters learning and growth. Our teachers are experienced and passionate about music, and are devoted to helping each student unlock their musical potential. We believe that music can be a powerful source of enrichment and joy, and we strive to make each lesson an enriching and memorable experience.

Primer Level

The Primer Level introduces the keyboard, note values, and the grand staff. Students play in Middle C position, develop recognition of steps and skips, and learn letter names independent of finger numbers. Musicianship is built through the use of dynamics and coloristic experimentation with the pedal. As new units are introduced, earlier concepts and skills are constantly reviewed.

Level 1

Level 1 introduces all the notes of the grand staff, elementary chord playing, and the concept of tonic and dominant notes. Musicianship is built with the introduction of legato and staccato touches. Students play in varied positions, reinforcing reading skills, and recognizing intervals through the 5th. It continues the interval orientation to reading across the full range of the grand staff.

Level 2A

Level 2A introduces eighth note rhythm patterns. Students work with 5-finger transposition, functional harmony, and musical phrases. Exploration of C, G, D and A major and minor 5-finger positions builds on intervallic reading skills that were introduced in the earlier level. Transposition and functional harmony skills are presented in highly musical settings.
