About Old Spool Sewing Studio

Welcome to Old Spool Sewing! I'm Julia, the teacher and owner of this wonderful shop. I'm an alumnus of Parsons the New School of Design in New York City, where I earned a nomination for Designer of the Year during my thesis year. After working in the fashion industry, I became disillusioned with its wasteful practices and decided to pursue my passion for making and teaching instead. Here at Old Spool Sewing, I offer sewing classes for people of all ages and skill levels, from beginner to advanced. I'm excited to share my knowledge and help everyone create something unique and special with their own two hands. I can't wait to meet you and start creating!

Middle School Sewing

This is for the Old Spool After School Tuesday 7-8:15 sewing class for for Middle School Grade 6-8 students. In this class students will follow our curriculum and learn to sew everything from pillows to pajamas, quilts and bags! All students who register are required to have taken our prerequisite Intro to Sewing Class or are currently registered for an upcoming one. If we do not have record of your child taking the Intro class you will be refunded and your spot in class is released.

[Middle School Fashion, Costume & Sewing]

This is for the Old Spool After School Monday 5:30-6:45 sewing class for Middle School Grade 6-8 students who would like to explore sewing fashion/garment, cosplay or sew along with our curriculum. Students who would like to explore garment/costume sewing must have at least a year of curriculum sewing experience with us. All students who register are required to have taken our prerequisite Intro to Sewing Class or are currently registered for an upcoming one. If we do not have record of your child taking the Intro class you will be refunded and your spot in class is released.

Intro to Sewing Prereq: Kids & Teens (ages 8+) 5/6

This one time Intro to Sewing class is open to mature children 8 years old and up. We cannot have children under the age 8 of due to insurance purposes and you will be asked to confirm their age before class. Tweens and teens are welcome! **This is the first class all new students must take before Old Spool After School and Summer Camps** In this one time beginner sewing class your child will become acquainted with a sewing machine, its parts and how to use it.
