Children’s Capoeira
An ancient art originating from Brazil in the 1500's by the African slaves who disguised combat into what seemed like a dance that has since been refined and passed down throughout generations. The roots of this art run deep within Brazil as the presence of unity, music and triumph are what continue to power this community and this way of life.

Drumming – Afro-Brazilian Rhythms
Drumming is a valuable experience for children in building their self-esteem, while cooperating within a group which requires them to concentrate on counting beats and following patterns. The shared experience of creating music is an essential part of our goal of trying to teach international-mindedness. An essential part of class is teaching the students how to handle the drums and each other with respect. We also cover the drum basics of hand coordination, different tones, listening to other parts and maintaining a steady pulse while playing rhythms. Students learn to tackle social skills through drumming games and activities. Drumming builds important work and community skills such as communication, listening, cooperative teamwork and respect for others.

Yoga – A Movement Art
Children, like all of us, are pure energy. The difference is that, in most of them, their energy is clear, expressive, and outward. Intuitively, children of all ages understand what yoga is all about. Yoga is the art of fusing body and mind for an overall sense of strength, flexibility and well-being. Yoga moves, bends, stretches and empowers bodies as well as minds. It can help children gain control over their active bodies and their sometimes overactive minds. Yoga can help children to see the beauty within them, increase self-confidence, make them more comfortable with their own bodies and better able to get in touch with who they are on the inside. Yoga helps children’s bodies to grow and develop. It builds strength, flexibility and coordination as well as mental focus. It promotes development and encourages imaginative play in elementary school children. It can help middle and high school children with the physical and emotional challenges they face.
