About Schoolhouse of Wonder

At Schoolhouse of Wonder, our summer day camps, field trips, and leadership training provide children and teens in Durham, Wake, and Orange Counties in North Carolina with the opportunity to play, learn, and grow. We create an environment of joy and exploration, where kids can feel safe to be themselves and take risks in a supportive community. Our goal is to help our campers become their best selves. We provide the space where young people can learn and develop skills that are essential for life: communication, creativity, cooperation, and critical thinking. Plus, our activities are designed to foster environmental stewardship and appreciation for nature, so kids can take pride in the natural world around them. At Schoolhouse of Wonder, our programs go beyond just having fun. We create a place where children can gain valuable skills and learn to be independent thinkers who are active participants in their communities. Our staff has the knowledge and expertise to provide a truly unique, inspiring, and enriching experience for all our campers.

Our Counselor in Training (CIT) program gives youth the opportunity to increase their self-confidence, leadership capacity, and accountability while enhancing their skills for the workforce. CITs support our younger campers and learn from our dedicated camp staff. During the summer they can serve for a single week, a few weeks, or even a month or more. Individuals who participate in the CIT program then have the opportunity to further their leadership skills by applying for employment with Schoolhouse of Wonder as a Junior Counselor.
