About Carroll Center for the Blind

At the Carroll Center, we are committed to helping blind children, adults, and senior citizens become active and independent. Our organization was established in 1936 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, and we have since helped countless individuals who have lost their vision to regain their independence. Our team of highly experienced professionals makes use of modern technologies, as well as traditional methods, to help those of all ages with vision loss live full and independent lives. At the Carroll Center, we are dedicated to helping people of all ages who are visually impaired become independent and active members of their communities. We’ve been providing innovative instruction and support for those with limited vision since 1936, when we were founded as a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Our team of experienced professionals has enabled thousands of individuals to live successfully with vision loss by utilizing the most up-to-date technology and adaptive methods.

ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY SERVICES FOR CHILDREN
Children with vision impairments can greatly benefit from low vision products, assistive technology and techniques to access school materials, the blackboard, and computers. However, finding the best solutions require an assessment by trained professionals and access to a wide variety of equipment.

BRAILLE EVENTS FOR CHILDREN
In the age of technology, braille is more important than ever. Research shows that there is a strong correlation between braille literacy and employment—even though the braille code was developed nearly 200 years ago. The New England Regional Braille Challenge, a national program of the Braille Institute of America, is a braille reading and writing contest for blind and visually impaired students in grades 1 through 12. It is hosted annually in early spring by the Carroll Center, and is open to all braille students in the six New England states and New York.

SUMMER PROGRAMS
For generations, students who are visually impaired have chosen to spend their summers at the Carroll Center because of the unique experience it provides. As part of our services for the blind and visually impaired, the Carroll Center offers a variety of summer youth programs for youth ages 14 to 21 that empower students to develop socially, academically, and independently during the summer months. Bring your energy, enthusiasm, and willingness to engage and learn, and you will master skills and create memories that last a lifetime.
