At our school, we believe that a child interacting in an environment tailored to their development will foster the best learning experience. Our classrooms are arranged so that children can access different areas with a variety of materials that are suitable for their age and stage. Our focus is on the process of learning, rather than the product. We also adhere to the Early Childhood Program Standards and Guidelines for Preschool Learning Experiences set out by the Massachusetts Department of Education. Our school's philosophy is grounded in the educational theory that children who learn in an appropriate environment will develop socially, emotionally, and cognitively. Our goal is to create a space that will support a child's learning journey and help them to gain the skills they need for future schooling. To ensure this, we provide materials that are age-appropriate and have an emphasis on the process of learning over the end result. We are also committed to following the standards set out by the Massachusetts Department of Education.

Pre-Kindergarten

For children who are 4 years old by September 1: Our Early Childhood teachers design the curriculum with intent, based on their knowledge of children and how they learn. They observe, reflect and record children in the classroom to encourage participation and provide the best learning for each child.

Preschool

For children who are 3 years old by September 1 The curriculum for our 3-year-old program focuses on creating an environment that supports a child’s growth and development by providing “play” experiences which encourage exploration, discovery and learning. Providing a wide variety of materials and resources which support rich and involved play experiences promotes learning in many ways. ​ Through dramatic play a child learns to use props to move from one idea to another and to express feelings through words and actions. Block play encourages a child to judge distance, space and physical relationship while developing hand-eye coordination and small manipulative skills. In the Language Arts center, a child begins to recognize that written words on a page represent spoken words and ideas. Open-ended activities with art materials help a child appreciate differences in texture, shape and size and to enjoy art for art’s sake.
