About A Place To Grow Childcare

At A Place To Grow, we have been providing quality daycare for 40 years. Our child care services are designed to meet the needs of busy families, with flexible schedules. Our program offers full day options from 8am to 6pm, or 8am to 4pm. We provide a safe and nurturing environment for infants, toddlers, pre-school and pre-k children. Our facility is located on the first floor of the Park Avenue Congregational Church, offering plenty of room for activities and learning. The church provides an indoor gym, conference room, kitchen, and a new playground area with climbing structures and a grassy area for field games. We have an on-site custodian to ensure the safety of all children, and we are able to accommodate up to 47 children daily.

Infant Program
A partnership with parents is at the heart of our philosophy for taking care of infants. We want the care that your baby receives at school to be an extension of the care they receive from home. When parents arrive at A Place To Grow, we want to hear about your baby’s night and morning so we can understand their needs for the day. In this way, your baby’s schedule is unique. In turn, you will receive an Infant Daily News which will tell you all about your baby’s day with us. Our classrooms all have telephones and we invite you to “check in”.

Toddlers
Our toddler rooms are a bustle of independent activity as toddlers struggle “to do it by myself”. They need thoughtful teachers who are close by and who encourage this new phase of development. They are learning new skills and changing each day. We support their fine and gross motor coordination, taking care of their belongings and themselves, and most importantly being a friend and making friends. Your child’s social and emotional development and health is our top priority and an integral part of our curriculum.

Preschool
We offer preschool children a carefully prepared environment, freedom to make choices, stimulating activities and guidance from teachers who understand the impact of early education on children’s development. Our classrooms are divided into learning centers that include: art, building, dramatic play, a reading corner, and science, sensory and math materials. Teachers change the content of the work as the year progresses and as the interests and skills of the children emerge and develop. Our curriculum is aligned with the Department of Education’s Preschool Curriculum Guidelines. Our preschool children participate in an in-depth Theme Study which takes place over several weeks. Some themes in the past have included: Homes, Things in the Sky, Works of Great Artists, and the Ocean. This unique way of teaching allows children, families and teachers to collaborate and enrich the curriculum. Children learn how to learn: we encourage a deeper investigation of a topic; we learn about it in many different ways; and we encourage persistence, patience and a positive attitude.
