About CircEsteem & The Chicago Youth Circus

Founded in 2001, CircEsteem has been helping youth around the City of Chicago build self-esteem and create safe and diverse communities for the past 20 years. During the first half of 2017, CircEsteem worked with more than 750 diverse youth from 21 different neighborhoods. Through academic enrichment, mentoring, and in-school arts enrichment programming, youth are given the opportunity to build personal development and leadership skills such as self-esteem and teamwork. CircEsteem utilizes social circus methodology to teach circus arts, inspiring youth to reach their full potential. At CircEsteem, we strive to provide a safe and supportive environment for all our youth. Our mission is to help these young individuals develop confidence, self-esteem and teamwork through the learning of circus arts. CircEsteem is committed to creating an atmosphere where our youth can feel safe and accepted, regardless of their backgrounds. We are proud to be able to offer our unique social circus programming to thousands of youth in the City of Chicago.

HomeWork & CircusWork

HomeWork & CircusWork (HWCW) is a free after-school tutoring and circus arts program. This program emphasizes self-esteem, teamwork and resilience; and is a safe space for all youth.

After School

‍This program will target confidence building and will help students recognize that there is no limit to what they can accomplish. Students will also be encouraged to develop confidence while on stage and performing which has been shown to translate into confidence in the classroom. Students will have the opportunity to work on team building, as many of the skills they will be learning require students to trust each other and work together to succeed. Building circus skills is also linked to physical fitness, fine arts, performing arts, and social-emotional learning.

Circus Summer Camp

Summer Circus Camp is a fun, safe, supportive environment where children explore the many skills that create the Circus Arts. Camp allows each child to develop self-confidence, self-esteem, physical awareness and an understanding of the potential they possess. Skills taught may include: trapeze, acrobatics, clowning, juggling, stilt walking, gym wheel, tight wire, rola bola, and mini trampoline. Students enrolled will get to share their excitement and newfound skills with family and friends at the end of the week in a Show Off performance!
