About Talcott Mountain Science Center & Academy

At the Talcott Mountain Science Center, we bridge the gap between current scientific principles and technologies and the classroom. By integrating ‘STEAM’ (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) into our science curriculum, we ensure students have the most up-to-date learning experiences. We have an esteemed team of educators, with a collective teaching experience of over 100 years, as well as partnerships with the State Department of Education and science-rich institutions across the state. We are also members of the Connecticut Science Supervisors Association, CT Science Teachers Association, and Earth Science Teachers Association and are a national GLOBE partner. At the Talcott Mountain Science Center, our mission is to ensure that students are exposed to the latest scientific advances and technologies. We accomplish this by providing them with real world learning experiences and staying up-to-date with the ever-evolving scientific landscape. Our staff are actively involved in curriculum development, teacher in-service, and classroom implementations, advocating the integration of ‘STEAM’ (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) into the curriculum. We have a wealth of experience and knowledge, evidenced by our credentials and our partnerships with the State Department of Education and science-rich institutions across the state.

Outreach & School Programs

Need a planetarium in your cafeteria? We’ve got one! How about a pond in Grade Three? Tornadoes in Room 216? We’re on it! We can bring these and much more to your school, and/or we can host your class at our one-of-a-kind mountaintop campus. Talcott started “post-Sputnik” as a partner with local schools - and we have nearly 50 years of experience bringing hands-on, dynamic, authentic science activities to your classroom. We'll work with your teachers and departments to add our specialties to your skilled staff. From kit science to specialized equipment to a day on the mountain, we can build a program that fits your needs and helps make the most of STEM education.

Spectacular Saturdays (K-8)

Make the most of your weekends with our three-week full days (K-3) or six-week full days (4-8) Saturday programs, which provide hands-on discovery, exploration, and research with guidance and skill building from Talcott scientists. Built on a tried-and-true enrichment model, students gain exposure to new areas in science, nature, and tech, they build the skills of a practicing professional, and they embark on creating original products or projects. The thrill of discovery and the satisfaction of success is “baked in” to our Saturday programs. Our topics vary seasonally, but include Robotics, Green Energy, Weather, 3D Printing, Ecology, Geology, Coding, Astronomy, and more!

Vacation Programs (K-8)

Vacations should be fun, and so should learning. That's why students love spending some of their vacation weeks with us! Two- or three-day programs for grades K-3 and 4-8 keep your child’s sense of discovery and accomplishment going strong!
