About Explore Ecology

Explore Ecology offers students hands-on experiences to help them understand and appreciate the environment. Through visual arts, field trips, and garden activities, students learn the importance of protecting and preserving the natural world. At Explore Ecology, we believe that children need access to the natural world to develop a healthy sense of self and a strong connection to the environment. Our mission is to provide students with the opportunity to learn about the environment and express their understanding creatively. We strive to create an environment that encourages creative thinking, problem-solving, and an appreciation of the natural world.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION
Explore Ecology educates over 30,000 children each year at Art From Scrap, the Watershed Resource Center, and in classrooms and school gardens throughout Santa Barbara County.

SCHOOL GARDENS PROGRAM
The Explore Ecology School Gardens Program connects children to nature and teaches them how to grow their own organic food using the garden as an outdoor classroom.

FLOWS TO THE OCEAN
The Flows to the Ocean program educates 4th to 6th graders about watersheds, water quality, and how they can prevent ocean pollution. Students participate in trash clean ups to prevent litter on land from ending up in the ocean. Each class designs an Action Project that impacts not only their classroom, but also other students in the school, their families, and the broader community. Students who successfully complete the program go on a Condor Express whale watching boat trip!
